Version 13 (16-JAN-2012)
Version 13 is primarily a maintenance release consisting of a few minor enhancements and bug fixes. It also introduces two new features which will probably be of little use to the majority of V users. However, I hope they will help introduce V to a new audience. The major new features are:
  • Spanish, French and Russian language interfaces can now be selected from the new Language tab of Preferences.
  • An experimental Bioinformatics/DNA search which lets you search for amino acid strings and IUPAC codes in files containing DNA sequences.
  • Support for XMIT and AWS files (used in IBM mainframe environments).
Other minor changes include:
  • Better support for Unicode files containing Asian characters.
  • The ability to change the font used by the Directory/Mask/Device boxes and by the FolderTabs.
  • A change in name from "V - The File Viewer" to "The V File Viewer".

Version 12 Service Release 1 (10-MAY-2011)
This is primarily a bug fix release. In particular, an attempt has been made to fix intermittent crashes while V is tailing files.

This release also allows you to change the font used to display the FolderTab heading and the Directory/Mask history.

Version 12 (21-JAN-2011)
The main new features in Version 12 are:
  • Command Line Search/GREP
  • Support for Everything Search
  • Support for 7Zip files (.7z)
  • Synchronized scrolling option when viewing multiple files
  • Data displayed with GridLines can now be exported to a CSV file
  • Right-click on a User Command to run as Admin
  • File Mask history can now be set to 1 (effectively disabling it)

Version 11 Service Release 1 (1-MAR-2010)
The following bug was fixed in V11 SR1:
  • V would sometimes crash when expanding Windows 7 Libraries

Version 11 (19-JAN-2010)
The main new features in Version 11 are:
  • A change to the way that V scrolls a document with the introduction of a current line marker
  • The introduction of more traditional bookmarking (Ctrl+F2/F2)
  • File masks can now be used to filter directory names
  • Improved support for Windows 7/Vista (including better support for themes)

Version 10 Service Release 1 (18-MAY-2009)
Service Release 1 is primarily a Vista update. That is, it improves V's functionality under Vista (and Windows 7).

Previous versions could not modify the contents of protected folders (like Program Files). SR1 will now display the much loved Vista UAC prompt.

SR1 also fixes the following bugs:

  • Deleting files from the search results could cause V to crash
  • Assigning a command to a single letter (eg, 'c') could sometimes cause V to ignore the following keystroke(s)
  • In GreenBar mode the green lines were not always drawn correctly if the window had been scrolled
  • Double-clicking on a FolderTab goes to its root (for locked tabs that allow subfolder browsing)
  • You can now search folders with commas in their names (by enclosing the folder name in double quotes)

Version 10 (16-JAN-2009)
The main new features in Version 10 are:
  • Tabbed Browsing
  • Split File View

Version 9 Service Release 1 (19-FEB-2008)
Service Release 1 adds the following:
  • A Network/UNC Timeout (in the Directory Options)
  • "Insert Date into Name" option in File Name Modify
It also fixes the following problems:
  • V9 would sometimes crash if GridLines were being used
  • Searching for hex (binary) data did not always work
  • Using "." for the search directory in GREP did not always work

Version 9 (14-DEC-2007)
The main new features in Version 9 are:
  • Better Unicode Support
  • A greenbar mode
  • U3 support

Version 8 Service Release 2 (11-MAY-2007)
V8 SR2 is primarily a bug fix release and a Vista compatibility update.

There is no need to download it unless you are affected by any of the bugs, or if you are running Vista. The following bugs have been fixed in SR2:

  • The Favorites menu would freeze when trying to display a Favorite that was located on a disconnected network drive.
  • When specifying a date range in File Search/GREP, V did not always find files that were modified on the last date in the range.
  • You could not "touch" a file with a time that contained an odd number of seconds.
