Should ES option disable V Directory options?

If ES is checked and anything is specified in the traditional V directory spaces ("In Directory", "Limit to..."), no results will be produced.

I'm wondering if it makes sense for V to disable and gray-out these directory entries when ES is checked, to give a visual clue that ES is overriding those options.

Can you give me an example of exactly what you are doing?

Enabling the ES option should not gray out any of the other options.

Note that enabling "Limit To Current Directory" will disable "In Directory" - but this has nothing to do with the ES option.

Please see the attached examples. Any time I have something in a directory field, and ES is selected, I get an immediate end with no results found.

To be clear, I'm not saying V does gray-out the directory boxes, I was suggesting that it might want to do that when the ES option is selected. Upon giving it more thought, maybe it should just clear the directory box and uncheck the "Limit Search" option (if selected).

No - it still needs those fields. Enabling the ES option does not automatically mean that you are searching everything.
The search is still limited to the In Directory. The only difference is that ES will search the In Directory instead of V.
If you want to search everything, you need to leave the In Directory empty.

Well this looks like a bug.

What happens if you do a File Search for *.log in the temp directory with ES enabled? Are any files found?
If not, does enabling Search Subdirectories make a difference?

Are you running the latest version of ES (ie, version 1.2.1.451a)?

Hi Charles:

File search: "Named":*.log, "In Directory":c:\temp, ES checked = no results
File search: "Named":*.log, "In Directory":c:\temp, ES unchecked = 5 matches

File search: "Named":*.log, "In Directory":c:\temp, "Search Subdirectories" checked, ES checked = no results
File search: "Named":*.log, "In Directory":c:\temp, "Search Subdirectories" checked, ES unchecked = 30 matches

Using the latest "Everything Search" I could find (Version 1.2.1.371 - did not find the one you mention, and the check for updates also said I was running the latest)

I think the problem lies in the version of ES you are using.

Have a look in the Announcements section of the ES forums. The very top post should have a link to the most recent alpha version - which should solve your problem.

Let me know how you go.

Charles.

It was the ES version. I tried 1.2.1.451a and the problem no longer exists.

Thanks!
