How do I copy a column of text?

I can't seem to figure out how to copy columns of text (not entire lines)?

You need to have the Ctrl key pressed as you select the text with the mouse.

This is only going to work if the document is a table or spreadsheet with fixed columns, though, yes?

This is only going to work if the document is a table or spreadsheet with fixed columns, though, yes?

It will work with any text file.

However, the data copied will most likely only make sense if it is in table format to begin with.
