Re: DST, FFT, etc.

If you aren't interested in updating this utility, will you release the source code? What is it written in?

It is written in C/C++ using Microsoft Visual Studio.

I will consider creating a SourceForge project for it - but I don't think this will happen until early next year.

Re: V Hangs During Startup in Windows 8.1

I want to make it clear that this issue is strictly related to Windows 8.1

OK. I will look into it. I may send you a diagnostic version if I don't get anywhere.

Please select Send Error Report from the Help menu and send me any V.log files - they may contain some clues.

Re: V Hangs During Startup in Windows 8.1

Thanks for all the details - I have a few more questions:

What do you mean by hangs?

Can you move or resize the V window?
Does the V main menu work?
Does the Windows Task Manager show that V is not responding?
Are you running the 32 or 64 bit version of V?

Re: V Hangs During Startup in Windows 8.1

Under some circumstance (that I can't reliably reproduce), V starts to load, then goes into a loop while searching for system drive devices. In your screenshot, what are the drives that do not have a name next to them? Are they local drives? Are they mapped network drives? If possible, please post ...

Re: DST, FFT, etc.

OK, I tested the DST question by running a backup. Nothing copied on the second run, indicating that VBackup is DST aware. Nice. I never considered the DST situation. The reason that it works is because I use the Uniiversal Time (UTC ) for comparison instead of the local file time. Also, what about...

When will the service release be available?

Any day now.

Just do a Check for Updates once a day until you see the new version.

Re: replacing (ms) explorer

but if a registry setting. would the change then be ok? I am sure there is more involved than just changing a registry entry. There is no Microsoft approved method of replacing explorer.exe Back in the days of Windows 95 it would have been much easier to produce a reliable hack to replace explorer....

Re: replacing (ms) explorer

a similar app to fileviewer, powerdesk from vcom.com has an option to "replace" the system explorer (explorer.exe) explorer.exe is much more than just a file manager - it handles many other Windows functions (like the Desktop). Just use the Task Manager to kill explorer.exe and see what h...

Re: V doesn't show up in Programs and Features

crud, as I think about it more, querying current_user won't work since the logged on user won't necessarily be the user who installed V. You can tell if V has been installed by the existence in the Registry of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Prineas\FileViewer . However, I am not sure if it is possible ...
