| Version 9 Unicode Support | Printer Profiles | Greenbar |
|
V9 has much better Unicode support - allowing it to now view foreign language Unicode files
(such as Hebrew, Cyrillic, Greek and Asian).
V9 does not support font substitution (or font fallback). Under font substitution, if the selected font does not contain a particular character, the program will try to use another font to display that character. Since V9 does not do font substitution, it is very important to use a font that contains all the characters to be displayed. Note that V9 does not support RTL (Right To Left) display. I will not implement font substitution or RTL in the V9 release. However, I may consider it for Version 10 depending user feedback. |
The printer settings (headers, fonts, margins, printer, etc) can now be saved in profiles. To do so, click
on the Profiles button and select "Save in New Profile". You will then be asked to enter a profile name.
You can then select this profile from the Profile list box. Doing so will restore all the settings stored in the
profile.
Note that once a profile has been selected, any settings changes will not automatically be saved back to the profile. You will need to do this manually by clicking on the Profiles button and selecting "Save in Current Profile". A default profile can be defined by clicking on the Profiles button and selecting "Set as Default Profile". |
Files can now be viewed (and printed) with a greenbar effect.
To enable, simply press the Greenbar icon in the toolbar.
You can customize the greenbar colors by clicking on the small arrow next to the Greenbar icon. The file can be printed in Greenbar by enabling the Greenbar option in the Print dialog. |
| Search Bar | Search Bar Options | Favorite Searches |
|
A Search Bar can be displayed at the bottom of the file window by enabling the "Display Search Bar"
option in the Find dialog box.
Enabling Highlight All will highlight every occurrence of the search bar text (this does not work in hex mode). Note that the search is not incremental (as in Firefox). You must click on the Refresh button (or Find Next) for the highlight/search to be updated. Incremental search will not be implemented in the V9 release. However, I will consider implementing it in Version 10 - as long as I get enough requests for it :-) You can customize some of the Search Bar functionality by right clicking on the Search Bar and selecting "Search Bar Options". |
Only display after first search If the Search Bar is enabled, it will be displayed whenever a file is viewed. By enabling this option, the Search Bar will not be displayed when the file is first viewed - it will only be displayed when the user starts searching. Do not use when searching from toolbar If the Search Bar is enabled, clicking on "Find" in the toolbar will move the cursor to the Search Bar for the user to enter the search text. By enabling this option, the default Find dialog will be displayed instead. Automatically Search from Favorites Selecting a search from Favorite Searches only updates the search bar with the search text/options. The user still needs to click on a search button to perform the search. By enabling this option, the search is performed as soon as the favorite is selected. |
By clicking on the "Favorites Searches" button and selecting "Add Search", the current search is added to the list of
Favorite Searches.
The user can them perform this search by simply clicking on the Favorite Searches button and selecting the search from the list. Organize/Configure can be selected from the Favorite Searches menu to modify or search or customize the menu. |
| Formatted Directory Listing | Viewing Clipboard Contents | U3 |
A formatted directory listing can now be copied to the clipboard by selecting "Directory Listing" from the
"File->Copy To Clipboard" menu.
![]() The format of the listing can be customized by selecting Directory Listing Setup from the same menu. Note that this listing can not be sent directly to the printer. However, the new View Clipboard command (see next column) can be used to view the directory listing - and print it. |
The File menu now contains a new "View Clipboard" command. Selecting the "View Clipboard" submenu will display
the different types of data that are stored in the Windows clipboard. Selecting the various data types will cause
V to view the corresponding data just like it was viewing a file.
Note that V can only view the clipboard data as text/hex. It cannot launch another program to view the clipboard data. For example, it cannot launch your image viewer to view bitmap data. Also note that some data types cannot be viewed. If this is the case, the data type will be disabled on the menu. |
Th U3 version allows users to take a registered copy of V wherever they go, and run it on any PC which is running a U3 supported operating system (Windows XP/200x/Vista).
All V settings and options are stored on the U3 drive - not on the host PC.
